Intermedia Buys Conferencing and Webinar Provider AnyMeeting

The acquisition positions both Intermedia and its partners to capitalize on rapid growth in the Unified Communications-as-a-Service market.

In a bid to expand its unified communications offerings at a time of growing convergence across the IT and voice channels, cloud applications vendor Intermedia has acquired AnyMeeting Inc., a provider of web conferencing, video conferencing, and webinar solutions with over a million registered users.

Terms of the deal, which encompasses nearly all of Irvine, Calif.-based AnyMeeting’s assets, were not disclosed.

Those assets join Intermedia’s existing catalog of 30 hosted, white label email, collaboration, backup, file sharing, and security solutions, all of which share a common management interface. The company has had a cloud voice offering as well since 2013, when it acquired AccessLine, of Bellevue, Wash.

“The AnyMeeting acquisition provides SMBs with a suite of easy-to-use applications that will increase productivity through enhanced collaboration, and delivers an even greater breadth of opportunity for our partners,” said Intermedia CEO Michael Gold in a press statement. “Our UCaaS offering will soon be our largest product line, and our AnyMeeting acquisition enables us to accelerate to the next phase as we offer an even broader portfolio of UC applications.”

Expanding that portfolio will position Intermedia and its over 6,500 partners to capitalize on rapidly swelling UCaaS spending. Global UCaaS outlays will grow at a more than 25 percent CAGR through 2021, according to analyst firm Technavio.

“Since 2011, AnyMeeting has been developing low cost, highly reliable collaboration solutions tailored for SMBs,” said Costin Tuculescu, CEO and founder of AnyMeeting, in today’s press release. “We are thrilled to be joining Intermedia with the joint mission of simplifying the way SMBs do business. Our team of experts brings deep experience in developing web, video and audio conferencing solutions—and, like Intermedia, puts reliability of service above everything else. We believe this acquisition will help us scale exponentially, and we look forward to building the next generation of UC solutions together.”

Efforts to integrate AnyMeeting’s offerings with the rest of Intermedia’s platform are underway. The first fruits of that labor are expected to reach market early in 2018. AnyMeeting services will remain available without interruption to its existing customers in the interim.

In January, Intermedia announced strategic investments in its channel aimed at doubling revenue within four years from today’s $200 million to $400 million. The following month, private equity firm Madison Dearborn Partners completed its acquisition of the company for an undisclosed sum.

More recently, Intermedia has launched an enhanced email protection platform, equipped it with free anti-phishing functionality, and armed its partners with new email backup and anti-ransomware lead generation materials.
