Hewlett Packard Enterprise Brings High-End Capabilities to Entry Storage

With prices starting under $10K, the company’s new flash and software-defined storage solutions feature a full set of data services from data migration, to flash tiering, to embedded resiliency across systems and sites.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has introduced the HPE StoreVirtual 3200 Storage and HPE MSA 2042, two new shared storage solutions designed to help small and midsized businesses (SMBs) modernize their IT with hybrid flash and software-defined storage platforms that bring enterprise capabilities at sub-$10K price points.

According to the company, the HPE StoreVirtual 3200 Storage is a next generation, flexible shared storage system built on HPE’s software-defined storage with over 200,000 StoreVirtual deployments worldwide. The system provides small and mid-sized storage customers with a new dual-controller array based on 64-bit ARM technology, a new RAID stack, and advanced storage data services like snapshots, thin provisioning, and replication with prices starting at $6K.

The StoreVirtual 3200 also provides customers with a path for growth through a composable data fabric that spans HPE StoreVirtual Systems and VSA software running on HPE ProLiant servers, HPE hyperconverged appliances, and HPE Synergy.

The HPE StoreVirtual 3200 offers resiliency across systems and sites as well as built-in support for more than 2,000 snapshots for rapid, granular recovery. For additional protection, with software such as HPE VM Explorer, data can be backed up and stored on HPE StoreOnce Disk Backup.

The new HPE MSA 2042 takes the company’s flagship entry array and gives it a makeover with 800 GB of built-in solid state disk (SSD) capacity as well as flash acceleration, automated tiering, and data protection with prices starting at $9, 877. The system provides the flexibility to use built-in SSD capacity as either a read cache accelerator or as a performance tier for read and write acceleration with no additional licensing costs. The features a “set-and-forget” tiering engine that optimizes flash capacity by reacting on-the-fly without manual intervention.

The MSA 2042 also scales with any combination of supported flash and traditional disk drives, and as with other members of the MSA family, it offers data-in-place upgrades.

Both the HPE StoreVirtual 3200 and HPE MSA 2042 storage systems are now available worldwide.
