Dell Unveils Smaller, More Powerful Commercial PCs

New additions to the company’s Latitude notebook, OptiPlex desktop, and Precision workstation families feature a tool called Dell Optimizer that’s designed to fine-tune performance, battery life, and more in real time using artificial intelligence.

Dell has announced new and updated editions of its Latitude notebooks, OptiPlex desktops, and Precision workstations designed to be more compact, more powerful, and more sustainably engineered than their predecessors.

The devices all come as well with a new tool named Dell Optimizer that uses artificial intelligence to automatically fine-tune performance, extend battery life, reduce echoes and background noise on conference calls, and more in response to real-time data from individual users.

Included among the five Latitude models unveiled today is a 15-inch unit with a 3.1 lbs. starting weight that Dell says offers up to 34 hours of power. Available as both a non-touch laptop and a touchscreen 2-in-1, the Latitude 9510 fits a narrow-border “InfinityEdge” 16:9 FHD (1920 x 1080) display into a brushed aluminum case just 13.39 inches wide.

The Latitude 9510 is also, according to Dell, the industry’s first commercial PC bearing 10th Gen Intel vPro processors to be verified under Intel’s Project Athena initiative. Introduced early in 2019, Project Athena is an “innovation program” aimed at spurring hardware makers to create a new class of slim, high-performance laptops with long battery life.

The smaller Latitude 9410 is a 14-inch convertible that weighs in at 3 lbs. and up and provides as much as 27 hours of power. Equipped with up to 10th Gen Intel Core i7 vPro processors, the device is also available with Intel Wi-Fi 6 networking that Dell says offers nearly three times faster speeds, plus 4G Gigabit LTE mobile broadband options.

The Latitude 9410 starts at $1,799, while the bigger 9510 sells for $1,899 and up. Both products are available immediately.

Other additions to the Latitude family featuring optional Wi-Fi 6 and 4G Gigabit LTE include the 12.3-inch Latitude 7210, the 13.3-inch Latitude 7310, and the 14-inch Latitude 7410. All three units come with 10th Gen Intel Core processors up to i7 vPro 6-Core. The 7210 is a detachable 2-in-1 while the 7310 and 7410 are available in both convertible and clamshell form factors.

The Latitude 7410 comes with what Dell says is the industry’s first 4K low blue light screen on a premium business PC. “This really allows you to have less eye strain and a more comfortable viewing experience for better readability,” says Meghana Patwardhan, vice president of commercial mobility at Dell.

All three 7000 series models are shipping today at prices that range from $999 and up for the Latitude 7210 to $1,499 and up for both the 7310 and 7410.

The five new all-in-one and four new desktop OptiPlex PCs introduced today come with 10th Gen Intel Core i9 processors up to 10 cores, up to 128 GB of 2933 MHz DDR4 memory, and optional Intel Wi-Fi 6. Intelligent Audio technology is designed to automatically optimize audio and microphone performance.

According to Dell, the Precision workstations it introduced today are the most significant update to that product family since its debut in 2013. “These devices match the power and performance of traditional desktop workstations, but in sleek, compact designs that users would be able to take anywhere with them,” says Tom Tobul, vice president and general manager in charge of the Precision portfolio.

For the first time, Dell’s 5000 series of Precision devices now includes a 17-inch model in addition to the previously available 15-inch unit. Called the Precision 5750, the larger system has a starting weight of 4.7 lbs. and a 94% display to body ratio, as well as up to an NVIDIA Quadro RTX 3000 graphics card. The 15-inch Precision 5550 weighs 4 lbs. and up, has a 92% display to body ratio, and supports up to NVIDIA Quadro T2000 graphics.

Both products run on 10th Gen Intel Core and Xeon CPUs with up to eight cores and feature 16:10 displays. They are, according to Dell, the smallest and thinnest mobile workstations by surface area in their size class.

New products in the bigger 7000 series, which are 19% smaller than the units they replace and have a 21% larger touchpad, come with 10th Gen Intel Core and Xeon 8-core processors, up to 128GB of 2933 MHz memory, and up to NVIDIA Quadro RTX 5000 graphics. The 15-inch Precision 7550 offers up to an HDR600 display and 6 TB of storage, while the 17-inch Precision 7750 has up to an HDR400 display and 8 TB of storage.

The value-priced Precision 3550 and 3551, meanwhile, target users of 2D CAD and entry-level creative applications with less intense spec requirements. The former device provides an Intel Core processor, up to 32GB DDR4 memory, NVIDIA Quadro graphics, and up to 2 TB of storage. The latter features either an Intel Core chip with up to eight cores or an Intel Xeon processor, plus up to 64 GB of DDR4 memory, NVIDIA Quadro graphics, and up to 4 TB of storage. Both products offer a selection of 15.6-inch touch and non-touch displays.

Both available now, the Precision 3550 and 3551 start at $939 and $1,049, respectively. The Precision 5550, which ships on May 28th,  and Precision 5750, which ships on June 9th, start at $1,999 and $2,399, respectively. The Precision 7550 and 7750, which both become available on May 28th, start at $1,789 and $1,999, respectively.

Calling the products showcased today “the industry’s most sustainable PC portfolio,” Dell says that all of them are registered as EPEAT Gold or Silver. A wider range of Latitude devices now use emission-reducing waterborne paint on 100% of painted parts, the company adds, while devices in the OptiPlex portfolio are now made with up to 60% recycled plastic.

Dell’s latest commercial offerings arrive on the heels of new consumer-oriented products announced last week.
