SmartSource Grows Technical Staffing Business
Client list doubles over the past four years as the staffing firm helps IT solution providers employ a variable resource model.
Chicago-based SmartSource Inc., a technical staffing company focused on partnering with IT solution providers, announced that it has doubled its number of client accounts and increased revenues by a total of 80 percent in four years. More than 40 VARs among the VAR 500 now rely on SmartSource for IT resources on a daily basis.
The staffing firm has doubled the number of technical resources it has deployed on assignments over the past four years while working with more than 2,500 resources on a W2 basis in 2008. To better support its growing customer base, SmartSource also expanded its national footprint; coverage areas now include all of the U.S. as well as Canada and Mexico. ††
“We have become the ultimate go-to partner for more and more OEMs, system integrators, and nationwide computer-repair companies,” says SmartSource CEO Joe Iovinelli.
Iovinelli attributes the company’s success to the variable resource model that SmartSource offers to solution providers through its National Resource Alliance Program. “Companies that maintain a bench staff of consultants have utilization issues, which cuts into their bottom-line profitability,” Iovinelli says. “But by giving our clients a staffing-on-demand business model, we allow them to win more business and be more profitable.”
Through the SmartSource National Resource Alliance Program, system integrators and hardware VARs can tap into high- and low-end technical resources at any time and for any duration. Evidenced by the company’s growth, more solution providers are turning to this model because over the long-term, it keeps costs down significantly.
Another key contributor to SmartSource’s success is its policy of providing contract technical resources that are primarily W2 employees rather than providing resources paid on a 1099 basis. “This allows us to offer technical professionals that are reliable and fully insured from a professional liability, workman’s comp, and payroll standpoint,” Iovinelli says. “We take on the risk of all of these requirements so that our solution provider partners don’t have to worry about them. Instead, they can focus on managing and deploying projects.”
