SMC Networks’ Newest Switches Now Part of Bell Microproducts’ Networking Program

TigerStack II 1000 Stackable Managed Layer 3 Switches to include 10G stacking ports, stacking cables, and 10G uplink modules designed to improve partner TCO.

Irvine, Calif.-based SMC Networks, a provider of networking solutions for the SMB and enterprise markets, is launching its new family of TigerStack II 1000 Stackable Managed Layer 3 Switches (SMC8926EM and SMC8950EM) through Bell Microproducts Inc., a distributor of storage and computing technology located in San Jose, Calif.

The TigerStack II 1000 Stackable Managed Switches are designed to improve partner total cost of ownership (TCO). They feature 24 or 48 10/100/1000 BASE-T ports and include built-in 10G stacking ports that would normally be purchased from other vendors. These ports offer 12.5Gbps, as opposed to the standard 10Gbps stacking, for non-blocking between switches in a stack.

In addition to the integrated non-blocking stacking ports, SMC will include the stacking, cable, and one 10G module for 10G Uplink capability. SMC’s design ensures that the 10G Uplink ports do not share ports with the 1G ports, thus providing full use of every port on the switch, lowering the cost per port, and providing flexibility for network configurations.

Each of the two 10G Uplink ports is also individually managed and provides options for trunking for 20Gbps. The TigerStack 1000 module slots currently provide XFP and CX-4 10G connections with the ability to support 10GBase-T and SFP in the near future.

“The performance demands on corporate networks, driven by advanced network applications and the acquisition of growing amounts of data, continue to grow exponentially while the pressure to tighten budgets and limit corporate spending continue to increase,” notes Gary Gammon, senior vice president of enterprise marketing for Bell Micro. “SMC’s new 89-series switches deliver a rich set of features, value, and performance that will enable our customers to affordably upgrade the capabilities of their networks to meet today’s needs, while delivering the scalability to protect their investment and network performance for many years to come.”

“The new 89-Series switches are the first in a new line of high-performance solutions that are designed to address the increasing performance and scalability demands that our larger channel partners need to compete and grow their revenue in their respective markets,” says Keith Alexis, vice president of sales and marketing at SMC Networks. “Because SMC’s channel partners are the core of our business, we establish and maintain close relationships with our partners and are in tune with the needs and desires of their customer base. As such, we are focused on developing solutions that will help our partners to win business, grow their client bases, and maximize profitability.”

About the TigerStack II 1000 Stackable Managed Layer 3 Switches
The SMC Networks TigerStack II 1000 Stackable Managed Layer 3 Switches (SMC89826EM and SMC8950EM) are a new series of high-performance stackable switches that deliver high scalability, wire-speed Gigabit performance, high availability, 10 Gigabit Ethernet uplinks, and redundant power options. The switches include both IPv4 and IPv6 management options for maintainability and future-proofing.

The TigerStack II 1000 switches feature 24- or 48- 10/100/1000BASE-T ports, four combination SFP ports, two stacking ports, and two 10G module slots that support SR, LR, and ER XFP modules for high-speed network connectivity.

The feature set of the TigerStack II 1000 switches includes: static routing, VLAN support, RIPv1/2, OSPF, VRRP, flow control, Spanning Tree, broadcast storm control, Jumbo frame support, ACL’s, 802.1x, RADIUS, TACACS, static port security, DNS, and LLDP. The switches support eight levels of priority (QoS) with flexible classification and prioritization, and provide per-port bandwidth management.

The switches can be managed via IPv6 and IPv4, Telnet and SSH, HTTP and HTTPS, SNMP, and through the RS-232 console port.

The TigerStack II 1000 Stackable Layer 3 Switches are backed by a three-year warranty and 24/7 technical support.
