STORServer Releases Reporter v2.5 for Tivoli Storage Manager Environments
Upgraded reporting software is now also shipping as a virtual machine for existing TSM and STORServer customers.
STORServer, a provider of data backup solutions for the midmarket, is releasing version 2.5 of its STORServer Reporting software. Now also shipping as a virtual machine, STORServer Reporter provides what the company calls “comprehensive, enterprise monitoring of a company’s Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) environment.” Available on March 1, 2010, STORServer Reporter v2.5 provides live data gathering and analysis, reporting, and trending of critical backup servers and clients with the push of a button.
“As part of this upgrade, we’ve created a simplified installation process, so our partners can quickly help their customers enjoy the benefits of this solution,” says Bill Smoldt, vice president of research and development at STORServer.”
Key features of STORServer Reporter v2.5 include asset management, dynamic performance reporting, departmental charge back capabilities, and trending analysis that predicts resource conformity and TSM environmental constraints. Customers can also generate reports across multiple TSM Server instances, a critical feature for customers that need visibility across data centers.
STORServer Reporter 2.5 adds the capability to calculate TSM license compliance with the new asset management function, both for physical and virtual environments, without the use of an installed agent. Backup of critical data will not go undetected because the asset manager provides an option to detect any disk that does not have a valid backup.
STORServer Reporter’s data collection process captures data from a user’s TSM server and stores it in its own database. Reporter uses the data to provide reports and alerts of a user’s server environment and to generate reports for problem analysis, trending, hardware utilization statistics, and configuration inconsistencies.
Since Reporter uses its own database to analyze data and generate reports, user’s TSM servers are not affected by long running queries or select statements. The historical views provided by STORServer Reporter of the Tivoli Storage Manager environment and operations can be used as a troubleshooting and problem determination tool for hard to diagnose problems like intermittent client or process failures and network bandwidth issues.
Pricing for STORServer Reporter v2.5 starts at $4,000 MSRP for the first TSM server and $2,000 for each additional TSM server. Reporter is compatible with TSM server releases 5 and 6.
Reporter has been validated by IBM and awarded the status of Ready for IBM Tivoli.
