Scala Acquires SignChannel from Thinking Screen Media
Digital signage company says it was attracted to the easy-to-use, advertising-free, subscription-based content of SignChannel.
Digital signage innovator Scala has acquired the SignChannel division of Thinking Screen Media. SignChannel puts out a self-service digital signage service on an advertising-free, subscription-based basis.
SignChannel is unique because it provides subscribers with the ability to supplement promotional content with other engaging content, including weather, stock, news, or sports updates. For Scala, this self-service model was an attractive one.
“No one today has a digital signage offering for small business owners to deploy and manage themselves,” says Scala CEO Gerard Bucas. “SignChannel is the first.”
Bucas believes that by leveraging Scala’s own template capabilities, SMBs will be able to use SignChannel as means establishing their own signage network. “It is so innovative that we feel it truly presents a new paradigm in our industry,” he says.
Other traditional digital signage systems, including Scala’s own Scala 5 software, require a reseller or system integrator to install the system and manage the network and in many cases a content specialist to create the content.
Scala executive vice president Jeff Porter says SignChannel changes that arrangement. “With SignChannel,” he says, “you have an affordable do-it-yourself SaaS solution for small- and medium-sized businesses.”
With Scala’s substantial investment, Thinking Screen Media plans to continue developing the consumer-focused FrameChannel platform, which is supported by advertising.
