Eaton Upgrades Network Management Device Firmware

The latest improvement is aimed at better enabling remote UPS monitoring with full IPv6 and SNMPv3 compatibility.

Industrial manufacturer Eaton Corp. has a firmware upgrade available to the channel for its ConnectUPS Mini-Slot (ConnectUPS-MS) and Network Management Card (NMC) Mini-Slot devices. According to the manufacturer, the firmware update enables full compatibility with Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) and Simple Network Management Protocol version 3 (SNMPv3).

According to Eaton, the upgrade enables ConnectUPS-MS and NMC users to manage, monitor, and control remote uninterruptible power systems (UPSs) from Web browsers or industry-standard network management systems.

“As distributed computing continues to grow, properly managing devices and communications resources in remote locations is vital,” says Eaton in a statement to EH Publishing. “Now, with IPv6 compatibility, Eaton’s users can take full advantage of the IP’s many benefits.”

Some of those benefits, says the developer, include increased address space, more efficient addressing and routing infrastructure, enhanced security, and improved service.

For enhanced network management, SNMPv3 supports the efficient IPv6 addressing with enhanced security features, including data integrity checks, message authentication, privacy (encryption), and access control.

“Intelligently managing power quality systems across the network has become more important than ever,” says Eaton vice president and general manager, distributed power quality business unit, Hervé Tardy.
