Medical offices that receive fax referrals and records may now receive those documents as PDFs, helping to meet compliance regulations.
The network fax server software GFI FaxMaker has been certified for use with the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and Practice Management (PM) solutions Aprima Medical Software Inc.
Developer GFI Software unveiled the certification amid the announcement that it will partner with Aprima and Aprima’s reseller partner network.
GFI FaxMaker enables users to send and receive faxes via their email client and EHR solution. Other features and capabilities include support for multiple types of email applications and Fax-over-IP (FoIP); integration with Microsoft Outlook global address book to direct faxes. It also works well with the mail merge feature of Microsoft Office. Moveover, it provides medical offices with the ability to receive faxes as PDFs and attach files to faxes.
Despite the push to digitize medical records in recent years, the healthcare industry remains predominately focused on fax for sharing patient documents, says GFI. According to Phil Bousfield, GFI’s general manager of infrastructure business, companies like Aprima are working to meet EHR technology as it continues to gain traction. He says Aprima recognizes “the opportunity to further strengthen the value they provide by seamlessly incorporating GFI FaxMaker into their own solutions.”
For its part, Aprima sees GFI FaxMaker as a product that integrates well into its own line of products. “When we decided it was time to incorporate a fax component into the Aprima system,” explains David Shaw, Aprima’s vice president of partner and channel sales, “we partnered with GFI to ensure we were providing our customers with the best network fax technology available.”
In addition to enabling medical offices accommodate faxed documents and reduce paper- and ink-associated costs, it is also designed as a compliance tool, helping offices meet patient security and information privacy requirements mandated by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
