ADTRAN, a converged access and networking provider, has upgraded its ADTRAN Bluesocket access point, allowing the virtual wireless LAN (vWLAN) to control and manage users entering the network from any wireless access point (AP) or wired port.
The network can manage these connections as part of a seamless vWLAN network, and customers can unify the process of providing connectivity to wired users without relying on a separate piece of hardware. With the upgrade of the ADTRAN Bluesocket AP, ADTRAN customers now have a migration path from older APs. Bluesocket’s vWLAN capabilities control users entering the network from a third party AP.
A vWLAN centralizes control on a virtual hypervisor, meaning there is no single-purpose physical hardware controller with scale limitations and high prices. The virtual hypervisor offers scaling capabilities at a low cost. ADTRAN has extended the approach so that the role assigned to a user applies whether that user enters the network from an ADTRAN Bluesocket access point, wired port, or third party access point. All users can be addressed with the same set of policies controlled through the vWLAN.
