Yamaha Puts Bluetooth and App Support into YAS-103 Soundbar

The company’s latest soundbar will start shipping soon.

Back in 2011, Yamaha debuted its YAS-101 Soundbar at $299. Now, the company is looking to add to the product, without increasing the price.

The newly announced YAS-103 builds on the success of the previous release, but adds in two features that we’re starting to see on a lot of soundbar products. The first is Bluetooth support, which allows you to stream music right to the speaker from any smartphone, tablet or other Bluetooth-enabled device.

Yamaha is also adding the option to control the YAS-103 with the company’s Home Theater Controller app. The free app allows users to adjust inputs, surround modes and other settings from iOS and Android devices.

The YAS-103 has one HDMI input, two optical inputs, one coaxial input, and an analog input. Other features include AIR SURROUND XTREME surround sound technology, support for Dolby Digital and DTS sound formats, Yamaha’s Advanced Bass Extension Processing, and dual built-in subwoofers, so you don’t need a separate subwoofer. It also has built-in IR repeaters, in case the soundbar needs to go right in front of the TV’s remote sensor.

“We found that many soundbar shoppers want deep, rich bass to add impact to TV and movie viewing, but they just don’t want the clutter of a separate subwoofer in the room,” said Bob Goedken, general manager of AV products for Yamaha Corporation of America. “The single-body design of the YAS-103 is equipped with two built-in subwoofers, for a cleaner, more elegant solution. Now, with the addition of Bluetooth audio streaming, we provide an easy way to fill your home with music from mobile devices.”

Yamaha will start selling the YAS-103 sometime this month. It will ship with a remote control and a $299.95 MSRP.
