Wired and wireless networking company, TRENDnet, has released its Home Smart Switch with Wireless Extender, model THA-101, a combination smart electrical outlet and N300 wireless extender.
Plug in the THA-101 into a location where there is still two bars of home wireless signal strength from an existing wireless network, displayed on a mobile device. Following an app-based installation, the built-in N300 wireless extender then broadcasts a wireless signal to an area with low or no wireless coverage.
Users can plug in a light, fan, or appliance into the electrical outlet on the front of the THA-101 and utilize the free Apple or Android mobile app to turn the outlet on/off from a mobile device with an Internet connection. The app can also be used to create a weekly on/off schedule, with varying daily on/off times, so that lights are on when returning home or to give the illusion of being home.
Overcurrent protection trips a circuit relay, cutting power to the built-in outlet, when current exceeds 16 Amps. The free app displays detailed real-time electrical consumption including the current (in mA), voltage, power (in Watts), and total energy consumption (in kWh).
Home Smart Switch with Wireless Extender, model THA-101, comes with a three year limited warranty and is now available from online and retail partners for $79.99.
