Spiceworks has unveiled four new cloud-based networking tools to help IT professionals more effectively manage their network. The free tools include:
- Blacklist Check and IP Reputation – Uses AlienVault’s Open Threat Exchange to identify if an IP address or hostname is blacklisted or flagged as malicious. IT pros can use the tool to determine if their organization’s email servers are listed on an anti-spam database or email blacklist.
- IP Lookup – Analyzes IP addresses and hostnames to provide details about the internet service provider’s domain, the organization or owner of the address, and the country, state, and city of origin.
- Port Scanner and Tester -† Identifies which ports are open to the Internet based on a given IP address, regardless of whether it is a router, switch, or server. IT professionals can use the tool to understand how vulnerable their organization is to external attacks so they can modify firewall settings accordingly.†
- Subnet Calculator – Can be used to understand network ranges and divide organizations’ IP network into smaller subnets. The tool enables users to quickly set up a new network when deploying a new piece of hardware or migrating to a new internet service provider.
“The IT industry has changed immensely over the past 10 years with a shift toward IT tools that show immediate value so that’s exactly what we’re focused on,” says Tabrez Syed, vice president of products at Spiceworks. “Our goal is to make it easier for IT professionals to find the tools they need as they need them. By giving them access to tools that don’t require a lot of set up and overhead, IT professionals can quickly solve the problem at hand and get back to their busy day.”
