Storage and networking vendor Buffalo Americas Inc. has officially retired its TeraStation 7000 line of network-attached storage systems.
Introduced in 2012, TeraStation 7000 products are 2U rack-mounted arrays with capacity for up to 12 hard drives. Austin, Texas-based Buffalo advises customers still using the devices to replace them with units from the TeraStation 5010 series, especially the TS51210RH model.
Like its predecessors in the 7000 series, the TS51210RH is a rackmount device with 12 drive bays; dual native 10GbE NICs that are backwards compatible to 5GbE, 2.5GbE, and 1GbE; and optional redundant power supplies. According to Buffalo, the system is engineered to support multiple concurrent sessions for tasks such as virtualized server backups, and generally offers better performance than TeraStation 7000s. Buyers can acquire the product with either four or 12 drives pre-installed.
TS51210RH units registered within 90 days of purchase receive five years of U.S.-based warranty support. Devices registered within the original warranty period are also eligible for Buffalo’s recently introduced Data Recovery Service, which allows users to restore data stranded on hard drives by logical failures at no charge.
Buffalo will continue to provide warranty and technical support for TeraStation 7000s still in production.
