Scale Computing has shipped its HC3 Edge Solution for distributed enterprises and IoT solutions.
Previewed last October, the system combines server hardware from Morrisville, N.C.-based Lenovo with Indianapolis-based Scale Computing’s HC3 Edge hyperconverged software platform. Scale is now officially launching the solution in conjunction with the 2019 Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona, where it plans to demo the new product.
The HC3 Edge Solution is optimized for use by organizations in industries like retail, banking, and manufacturing that have lots of remote sites with no onsite IT support. Thanks to the rise of 5G networking and the Internet of Things, such locations increasingly need onsite infrastructure powerful enough to run mission-critical applications in addition to providing basic services.
“Whether it’s IoT, the digitization of everything, or consumer experience expectations, we are seeing an explosion in the demand for IT resources at the edge. However, existing infrastructure in distributed locations are woefully inadequate for running mission-critical workloads,” said Scale Computing CEO Jeff Ready in a press statement. “It’s a performance and service gap that needs a solution as organizations rise to the opportunity presented by global edge computing trends, such as Internet of Things.”
An integrated all-in-one appliance, the HC3 Edge Solution features machine learning-based self-healing technology designed to dramatically lower the need for hands-on technical support. The system typically reduces ongoing management costs by 60 to 80 percent, according to its manufacturer, and can be installed in less than an hour.
Lenovo will showcase its new Future-Ready Retail Store Infrastructure solution, which also combines ThinkServer hardware with Scale’s HC3 software, at the Mobile World Congress show this week. The new system is designed to help store owners deploy mini-data centers capable of powering inventory management, pricing, logistics, and cashierless checkout solutions.
Scale has partnered with other vendors recently on hyperconverged solutions. In September, for example, it introduced a Micro Data Center in a Box offering with APC by Schneider Electric. A combination of Scale’s HC3 HyperCore software and self-contained enclosure hardware from APC, the solution is designed to let channel pros and IT departments deploy complete, pretested, energy-efficient infrastructure solutions at remote locations.
Scale launched an MSP partner program offering per-node, per-month pricing on hyperconverged solutions last June.
