Zyxel Ships Small Business Firewall With Cloud-Based Threat Intelligence

Aimed at organizations with fewer than 25 employees, the new system utilizes a cloud-based artificial intelligence to identify and block top-ranked threats.

Zyxel has introduced a firewall for small businesses that draws on real-time intelligence from a cloud-based global threat database.

Called the ZyWALL ATP100 and designed for organizations with fewer than 25 people, the new device connects with a cloud-based threat intelligence system that collects information about unknown files from deployed Zyxel ATP firewalls, runs it through an AI-powered analysis engine, and then distributes signatures for the most dangerous threats back out to the firewalls, shielding users from the latest and biggest risks they face.

The unit also leverages Zyxel’s cloud-based anti-malware, intrusion detection and prevention, content filtering, and other security services to provide multi-layered protection against a wide and evolving range of threats.

Built-in cloud querying functionality automatically checks unknown file IDs against the Zyxel Security Cloud database to determine if they’re malicious. Any file the threat intelligence system can’t identify can be placed in an online sandbox to determine whether it’s malicious or not in a safe environment.

Other features in the new product include a reputation filtering feature that matches IP addresses against a real-time database of malicious sites. Storing reputation data and file IDs online, Zyxel says, improves efficiency and frees up hardware resources for other activities.

A user-friendly dashboard gives visual traffic summary and threat statistics through Zyxel’s SecuReporter analysis and reporting tools, which identify network security threats, security events, application usage, website usage, and traffic patterns, among other topics. Botnet filter analytics and reports, along with IP reputation analytics, provide insight into identified and potential threats.

“As cyber attacks continue to grow more persistent and with increasing complexity across multiple vectors and stages, businesses of all sizes are more vulnerable to attacks than ever before, opening them up to the risk of losing critical data, disruptions to operations and potentially crippling legal issues,” said Tri Nguyen, market development manager at Zyxel, in a media statement. “The ATP100 delivers advanced threat protection at an affordable price point to provide small businesses with an intelligent firewall solution to protect their company from the ever-evolving threat of cyberattacks.”

Street pricing on the ATP100 starts at $399.99.

Zyxel released a security gateway for midsize businesses in February and a family of switches for use with IP surveillance systems. Those products won the company a place on ChannelPro‘s list of All-Stars for 2019.
