Building on its leadership in lithium-ion UPS, Eaton’s new 6kVA offering will allow your MSP customers to “set it and forgot it” for 8–10 years.
The latest addition to Eaton’s 9 series single-phase double-conversion UPS line, the Eaton 9PX6K lithium-ion UPS offers a larger power rating of 6kVA and remote firmware upgrades, moving closer to a complete set-it-and-forget-it solution. Available in rackmount and tower form, the 9PX lithium-ion UPS has the same reliable features as the lead-acid UPS, including load segments that allow for prioritized shutdown, remote power on (RPO), remote on/off (ROO), and output relay ports that increase control capabilities.
In addition, the 9PX6K is compatible with the Gigabit Network Card (NETWORK- M2), the first UPS connectivity device to meet both UL and IEC cybersecurity standards. This network interface card improves power system reliability by providing warnings of pending issues and helping to perform orderly graceful shutdown of servers and storage.
Eaton was the first major UPS manufacturer to offer a global, double conversion 1-3kVA lithium-ion UPS in 2021. “We’re seeing that the market adoption rate for lithium-ion has increased exponentially over the last two years,” says Eaton’s Sami Hussaini, D-IT UPS product manager, Critical Power and Digital Infrastructure. “The longer lithium-ion battery life of the UPS—2-3x battery life versus lead acid—can eliminate the cost of procuring replacement batteries as well as the labor cost for in-person battery replacement.”
He adds, “If you have limited resources for managing the equipment, that’s a big thing.” There are other appealing features as well. The 9PX lithium-ion rackmount UPS is 20% lighter and the extended battery module (EBM) is 40% lighter than 9PX lead-acid models. “We can house the EBM in a smaller chassis so you’re getting extra use space in that rack for dedicating to IT equipment that you really need, like storage,” Hussaini says, adding that the 9PX line offers a 5-year warranty.
When Eaton rolled out the 1-3kVA lithium-ion UPS, the rate adoption was extremely successful and demand was high, he says. “We are anticipating the same appetite” for the 6kVA, which launched in June and became widely available in September.
The 9PX’s features enable Eaton’s managed service provider partners to offer their customers an in-demand solution that is close to “set it and forget it,” Hussaini says. The new 6kVA offering can act as a door opener for MSPs to have a TCO conversation about power management with their customers as well as use that opportunity to explore any additional needs they may have, Hussaini points out.
Eaton PowerAdvantage partners also have access to Eaton’s global portfolio, which includes solutions other competitors don’t have, he notes.
