MSPS NEED THE BEST data backup and disaster recovery tools possible for their clients, and Veeam is a top option, but it doesn’t have an MSP program. Designed for enterprise users, even the Veeam Cloud Connect (VCC) is difficult for an MSP to use for multiple customers. Probax offers an interface to Veeam that is designed for MSPs.
“We provide premium backup as a service and disaster recovery as a service,” says Tim Smith (pictured), CEO. “We’re a channel-only services provider that’s vendor agnostic, but we recognize Veeam’s market dominance, and a majority of our solutions are based on that technology.”
Starting as an MSP back in 2006, the company changed the name to Probax in 2010 and focused exclusively on BaaS and DRaaS. Using proprietary tools that aren’t limited by the underlying backup provider, Probax first added unique capabilities on top of StorageCraft and then Veeam, and today also interfaces with Microsoft 365 and Dropbox. Like others in the market, Probax uses API-based technologies.
How advanced are the tools from Probax? “We were backing up Veeam to the cloud two years before Veeam introduced VCC,” says Smith. Although there are fewer than 50 employees, Smith says they serve the North American and Australian markets quite well, as evidenced by being named 2021 Veeam Partner of the Year for APJ.
Probax “meets the MSPs where they are,” says Smith, with a “pay for only what you consume with no minimums,” partner plan. He currently has just under 500 partners and engages with all types of MSPs serving all business sizes and verticals.
Actively engaged with their software partners’ roadmaps, especially Veeam’s, Probax already has two Veeam Vanguard awards. Smith adds that their technology roadmap, based on client feedback, is solid. “In VeeamON in May we were awarded the 2023 Veeam Innovation Award.”
