FOR MSPs, automating a task with a PowerShell script is useful. Automating a process—a collection of tasks—with robot process automation (RPA) can significantly improve efficiencies and reduce time spent on mundane, repetitive work. Until recently, however, RPA platforms were too expensive, too complex, and didn’t integrate with an MSP’s tools. Enter Rewst in 2021.
“We want MSPs to be able to automate the boring,” says CEO Aharon Chernin (pictured). As a result, he adds, “their help desk and engineering talent can be focused on doing fun, more difficult work that can’t be automated.”
A low-code, multitentant platform that integrates with the tools an MSP uses, such as RMM and PSA, Rewst was built from the ground up for MSPs by two people who understand MSPs: Chernin, who founded Perch, an IT security company acquired by ConnectWise; and Gary Pica, founder of TruMethods, an MSP coaching firm aquired by Kaseya.
The Rewst platform features a drag-and-drop form builder with ready-made, customizable templates. The Rewst subscription includes support from the Robotic Operations Center (ROC), which can provide help and suggestions for workflows plus maintain and monitor active automations.
How does RPA differ from ChatGPT? Chernin uses this analogy: If an automated process is an omlette, Rewst is the skillet. ChatGPT is a spatula, just one integrated tool you may use to make the omlette.
Chernin says the learning curve for Rewst is not dissimilar from an RMM or PSA, but the company strives to make the platform more accessible by enabling users to help each other through Slack and Discord channels. “Customers also have a one-on-one Discord channel with the ROC,” he adds. To aid in learning, Rewst recently launched Cluck University, a mix of on-demand and live group training.
As for what’s on the roadmap, Chernin says this: “Rewst has identified that automations appear more like apps than anything else and we’re working on a way to harness that power by later on in the year.”
