Devolutions Previews Roadmap Milestones

Forthcoming enhancements will upgrade the security vendor’s Password Hub, Devolutions Server, Devolutions Workspace, and Devolutions Gateway products.

Devolutions has introduced updates to its family of password and privileged access management (PAM) solutions.

The security vendor showcased the mostly forthcoming enhancements at last week’s MSP Expo event in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

The first upgrade, due in March, adds a shared password vault to Password Hub, the company’s cloud-based password management system. Only the on-premises Devolutions Server product includes such a feature at present.

“It’s kind of a new thing that’s been requested so people can rotate passwords and check in and check out privileged accounts,” says Yann Lemasson, product marketing manager at Devolutions.

A new addition to the Devolutions Workspace mobile app, also due next month, will send push notifications to iOS and Android devices when Password Hub and Devolutions Server users need permission to check out a PAM entry. Notifications are currently sent in email, where they may linger unnoticed in a recipient’s inbox.

Updates to Devolutions Gateway coming in March include new support for the telnet protocol, support for website entries, and the introduction of a new web-based RDP feature that will frees users from needing client software on their devices to initiate RDP sessions.

“There’s nothing to deploy to the user,” Lemasson says. “It’s going to be browser-based RDP directly from the Devolution Server website, and it’ll pass it through the Gateway.”

Introduced late in 2021, Gateway is a remote network access solution designed for use with segmented networks that require authorized just-in-time access. “It allows you to give access to a specific area of a network, publicly over the internet, but in a really secure fashion,” says Maurice Coté, vice president of business solutions at Devolutions. “We call it the VPN killer.”

Changes to the dashboards included with the vendor’s Remote Desktop Manager, Password Hub, and Devolutions Server products, scheduled to ship next month, will give users the ability to customize what is displayed and how those items are arranged.

Devolutions shipped a new pooled licensing database last November that lets administrators auto-assign licenses to users. The vendor also replaced the sub-connections feature in its product line with new sub-entries that month. Like their predecessors, sub-entries inherit properties such as host names and credentials from parent entries. Unlike sub-connections though, which have limited functionality, sub-entries offer the exact same capabilities as entries.

Both Devolutions Server and Devolutions Password Hub support the new feature, which has been available in soft release since last November.
