MSP360 Adds Object Lock Immutability from Backblaze to Managed Backup Service

When enabled by a technician, the new and optional feature prevents users from accidentally or intentionally deleting protected data for the duration of a pre-defined retention period.

MSP360 has added object lock immutability from cloud storage vendor Backblaze to its managed backup service.

When enabled by a technician, the new and optional feature prevents users from accidentally or intentionally deleting protected data for the duration of a pre-defined retention period. According to MSP360, the service can help businesses in tightly regulated industries meet proof of compliance requirements as well.

“Our customers have clients operating in a range of IT environments,” said MSP360 CEO Brian Helwig in a media statement. “With whatever we do, we want to keep that in mind and ensure we provide our customers with options. Offering Backblaze B2 Object Lock to our customers provides them another tool in the fight against ransomware, arguably still cybersecurity’s biggest challenge.”

Backblaze added object lock functionality to its solution late in 2020. The company currently serves nearly 500,00 customers in 175 countries.

“MSP360 has been a long-time partner of Backblaze and continues to impress us with their commitment to delivering a well-rounded platform to customers,” said Nilay Patel, vice president of sales and partnerships at Backblaze, in prepared remarks. “We’re very happy to extend Backblaze B2 Object Lock to MSP360’s customers to meet their security, disaster recovery, and cloud storage needs.”

The addition of object lock functionality from Backblaze to MSP360 Managed Backup follows the introduction of similar services from Wasabi Technologies last December and Amazon Web Services last October. The product, which supports Windows, Linux, macOS, VMware, Hyper-V, Microsoft 365, and Google Workspace endpoints, can store data in Microsoft Azure as well.

MSP360 named Sophos and Barracuda Networks veteran Katie Bach its new channel chief last week.

In addition to its managed backup solution, MSP360 also offers remote desktop software and introduced an RMM application last year. Since May, the company has been forwarding end users who want to purchase one of its products to one of its roughly 11,300 partners. Those who want someone to manage the software for them get referred to an MSP. Those who want to run the software themselves are directed to a VAR or distributor.

Backblaze for its part added a new capacity-based partner pricing model and rolled out a new API for software vendors in its alliance partner program in April.
