Lenovo Unveils Windows 11 Laptops

The hardware maker showcased three consumer notebooks powered by Microsoft’s latest desktop OS alongside new monitors and a new edge computing server during its 2021 Tech World conference today.

Lenovo has three new consumer laptops running Microsoft’s Windows 11 operating system set to arrive next month.

The hardware maker unveiled those products alongside new monitors and a new edge computing server during its 2021 Tech World conference, held online earlier today.

The new notebooks showcased include the 14-inch Yoga Slim 7 Carbon, which will be called the IdeaPad Slim 7 Carbon in North America. Equipped with up to an eight-core AMD Ryzen7 5800U Series mobile processors, and either AMD Radeon graphics or optional NVIDIA GeForce MX450 graphics, the device weighs just 2.37 lbs. According to Lenovo, that makes it the industry’s lightest 14-inch laptop with an OLED display.

Targeted at creators looking for more screen space, the Yoga Slim 7 Pro (which will be named the IdeaPad Slim 7 Pro in North America) features a 16-inch QHD In-Plane Switching (IPS) touch screen in a 16:10 format offering up to 500 nits of brightness. The device is powered by up to AMD Ryzen 7 5800H mobile CPUs and up to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 laptop GPU. Dolby Atmos sound, a noise-cancelling mic, and an integrated IR camera are all standard in the 4.6 lbs. unit.

The IdeaPad Duet 5 Chromebook (to be called the Lenovo Chromebook Duet 5 in North America) is a 13.3-inch detachable designed to provide up to 15 hours of battery life. The device comes with a touchscreen OLED display and USI stylus support. It runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 compute platform.

All three devices are slated to ship in October. Prices will begin at $1,289.99 for the Yoga Slim 7 Carbon, at $1,449 for the Yoga Slim 7 Pro, and at $429.99 for the IdeaPad Duet 5 Chromebook.

Monitors introduced today include the ThinkVision P27u-20, a 27-inch Ultra High Definition IPS model designed for photography, video, and graphics work. It comes with multiple USB 3.2 ports including Thunderbolt 4 input and output ports that carry display and data up to 40Gbps and can supply up to 100W of power to a laptop. A downstream USB-C port, meanwhile, delivers up to 27W to a smartphone.

Set to ship in December, the ThinkVision P27u-20 will sell for $769 and up.

The Lenovo G27e-20 and G24e-20 monitors are meant for college students, gamers, and young professionals. The former is a 27-inch display while the latter measures 23.8 inches and provides 300 nits of brightness and 95 percent sRGB. Both units offer a 100Hz refresh rate and up to 120Hz of overclock.

The two monitors are scheduled to reach market next month. The larger of them will list for $239.99 and up versus $209.99 and up for the smaller one.

The ThinkEdge SE70, also introduced today, is an edge server optimized for computer vision and other artificial intelligence workloads. The ruggedized device comes with a pre-installed copy of Amazon Web Services Panorama, an SDK for computer vision applications, and is powered by an NVIDIA Jetson Xavier NX platform capable of processing up to 21 trillion operations per second. It will be available in select markets worldwide starting in the first half of next year for prices yet to be announced.

Lenovo unveiled a pre-integrated hardware/software bundle designed to help organizations create and run VMware-based hybrid cloud environments at edge sites more easily yesterday, along with an updated edition of its Open Cloud Automation system designed to simplify edge computing deployment and administration.
