SolarWinds MSP Expands Data Breach Scanning in Risk Intelligence Solution

A new data breach risk scanning feature helps users find unpatched operating systems and applications, device settings that don’t meet configuration requirements, and more than 60 types of sensitive personally identifiable information.

SolarWinds MSP has added an†Expanded Data Breach Risk Scan (ExDBRS) function to†its SolarWinds Risk Intelligence. According to the Durham, N.C.-based†IT service management solution provider,†the new feature seeks to help users discover and identify risks from security vulnerabilities on endpoint devices and enhance regulatory compliance capabilities.†

SolarWinds Risk Intelligence is designed to quickly identify application and OS vulnerabilities in customers’ networks, discover how hackers may get to this data, calculate the real-time risk of a data breach, and assess the potential financial liability. The new ExDBRS feature is designed to be useful when regulatory compliance is critical. For instance, it identifies security vulnerabilities such as unpatched operating systems and applications. In addition, the ExDBRS highlights device settings that don’t meet baseline configuration requirements through a new technical safeguards check. The scan, according to SolarWinds MSP, can find more than 60 types of sensitive personally identifiable information.

The system also produces a potential financial impact number designed to helps MSPs and their customers assess the risk for a specific device or across an organization’s devices, and track changes over time.

“Sensitive data left exposed on systems poses a great risk to your business and your customers; by having the ability to identify critical security vulnerabilities such as unpatched operating systems, you can help reduce the risk of compromise and help keep your customer data more secure,” said Tim Brown (pictured), vice president of security, SolarWinds MSP, in a press statement. “With the Expanded Data Breach Risk Scan, users have a view of more than 60 types of PII, giving them greater knowledge of which sensitive data is stored on their network. This makes the daily maintenance of keeping it secure easier and—if requested—simpler to edit or remove.”

This announcement comes on the heels of another security-related move by SolarWinds earlier in the week—†its acquisition of Trusted Metrics Inc. and launch of a new software-as-a-service threat monitoring and management solution based on the Raleigh, N.C.-based security vendor’s technology.
