Acronis Makes Google Cloud its Latest Option for Storing Backups

The Google Cloud Platform joins Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Acronis’s own cloud as supported repositories for protected data. Acronis plans to let users employ Google infrastructure as a recovery environment for virtual machines as well.

Acronis International GmbH has forged a strategic partnership to integrate its data protection solutions with Google‘s public cloud.

The agreement adds Google Cloud Platform to the list of online storage options for Acronis data protections solutions, which previously included Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Acronis’s own cloud infrastructure.

According to Acronis, whose U.S. headquarters are in Burlington, Mass., the deal also significantly increases the number of cloud regions globally where users can store data, improving system performance and shortening recovery time objectives.

Acronis expects its partners to have an easier time meeting SLA obligations and selling Acronis products to customers who prefer Google’s cloud to alternative platforms as well.

“The integration of Google Cloud with Acronis backup products is one of the top requests from our users,” said Acronis President John Zanni in a press statement. “There are many businesses who have invested in public cloud infrastructure. We’re making it easy for them to use it with Acronis.”

The alliance revealed today also includes future commitments by Acronis to offer extended data protection to workloads hosted in the Google Cloud Platform, allow users to deploy the Acronis Backup management server in Google’s cloud, and use Google Cloud Platform as a disaster recovery hosting environment for virtual machines.

“We are seeing an increasing number of customers take advantage of our storage products for data protection because they offer better flexibility, performance and economics,” said Adam Massey, director of strategic technology partners for Google’s cloud unit, in prepared remarks. “By partnering with Acronis, an established leader in the industry, we hope to make the customers data protection journey even easier.”

Acronis rolled out the Acronis Data Cloud, a unified platform underlying all of its current and future cloud-based services, last October.
