ADTRAN Unveils Software-Defined Access Acceleration Services and Broadband Subscriber Management Suite

The new offerings are the latest additions to the network and communications vendor’s Mosaic software-defined access platform.

ADTRAN Inc. has added new services and solutions to its Mosaic software-defined access platform designed to help service providers modernize legacy networks and subscriber session management processes.

Officially named the ADTRAN SD-Access Accelerator and ADTRAN Mosaic Broadband Subscriber Management Suite, the new offerings debuted during the networking and communications vendor’s CONNECT conference, which is taking place near its headquarters in Huntsville, Ala.

Designed to power comprehensive, standalone, pre-integrated Residential-Central Office Re-Architected-as-a-Datacenter (R-CORD) solutions, the new SD-Access Accelerator is a collection of SD-Access system integration services stocked with customizable R-CORD Point of Delivery (PoD) systems.

“As they realize the need to accelerate their path to deploying SD-Access architectures, service providers are looking for effective ways to transition their processes and build their knowledge base,” said Kevin Barnes, services and solutions integration vice president at ADTRAN, in a press statement. “ADTRAN SD-Access Accelerator offers turn-key solutions, making it easy to develop and evaluate minimal viable product sets while quickly adapting business processes. This can all be done without providers having to overhaul their underlying technology foundation before making a significant investment in SD-Access.”

A new addition to ADTRAN’s Software Defined Service Edge (SD-Service Edge) portfolio, the Mosaic Broadband Subscriber Management Suite is designed to help service providers significantly lower both capital and operational costs by replacing the broadband network gateway routers they have historically used to administer broadband access subscriptions with software-based infrastructure.

“ADTRAN’s SD-Service Edge provides multi-terabit connectivity with advanced QoS and real-time session management for tens of thousands of users to address the scale requirements of the most demanding next-generation PON networks,” said Chris Thompson, director of Mosaic software and solutions portfolio for ADTRAN, in prepared remarks. “The benefit to the service provider is unmatched scale, automation, network simplification and lower operational cost as network operators look to expand the scale and improve the agility of their fiber access networks.”

Introduced in July 2016, Mosaic is an open software architecture engineered to help operators of multi-technology, multi-vendor legacy environments build programmable, scalable software-defined networks. ADTRAN shipped the final pieces of that platform last October.

Yesterday at CONNECT, ADTRAN added a new managed firewall service based on technology from San Jose, Calif.-based Untangle Inc. to its family of subscription-based ProCloud managed services.
