LAS VEGAS, Jan. 04, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — NETGEARÆ, Inc. (NASDAQ:NTGR), the leading provider of networking devices that power today’s smart home and small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs), is launching two new industry-first Virtually Anywhere Web Managed switches to support deployment of modern high-power Power-Over-Ethernet (PoE+) devices in locations where other switches cannot go. The innovative mounting system of the new ProSAFEÆ 8-port Gigabit Ethernet Web Managed PoE+ Click Switch (GSS108EPP) and the ProSAFE Easy-Mount 8-port Gigabit Ethernet PoE+ Web Managed Switch (GS408EPP) offers ultimate flexibility in placement so PoE+ ports are available exactly where needed — and the GS408EPP’s unique design allows for two switches to be mounted in a single 1U rack slot, saving valuable rack space while allowing for future expansion as needed. Both switches also provide the configurable, advanced Layer 2 network features of other ProSAFE Web Managed (Plus) Switches. The new switches will be showcased with other innovative new products this week in the NETGEAR suite at the CESÆ trade show.
As adoption of wireless devices using PoE+ power (802.3az) becomes more widespread, the placement of these devices presents a challenge to the PoE switches supplying their power. VoIP phones, IP security cameras with night vision and motion tracking, wireless access points, proximity sensors, LED lighting, door locks and other IoT PoE-powered devices are typically spread throughout business premises for optimal coverage, surveillance and density management, making them difficult to deploy efficiently from a centralized IT room.
The new NETGEAR switches install PoE+ ports in any environment needed where other switches cannot go, due to their industry-first Virtually AnywhereTM mounting system for vertical, horizontal, flat or perpendicular placement. Whether it’s on the wall, strapped to a pole, or under a desk or tabletop, this mounting system unique to NETGEAR Easy-Mount and Click Switches enables the SMB network manager to control exactly how and where PoE+ ports and cables are deployed. The GSS108EPP Click Switch also features a fanless design for silent operation in conference rooms, open space offices, healthcare centers or any noise-sensitive environment.
“NETGEAR understands the importance of providing a flexible network that can adapt to the business’s needs, whether in the hospitality, catering, education or retail domains,” said John McHugh, senior vice president and general manager of SMB Product Line Management for NETGEAR. “For that reason, we are launching our industry-leading Virtually Anywhere PoE+ Switches to give IT managers greater control over denser deployment of PoE devices like wireless access points, instead of being at the mercy of inconvenient PoE connections where space is at a premium.”
The innovative mounting system of the GS408EPP Easy-Mount 8-port PoE+ Switch also offers unique, space-saving rack-mounting capabilities so companies can deploy denser PoE+ support as their needs grow, without losing valuable rackspace. As both the Ethernet ports and the power cable connection are on the same side of the Easy-Mount switch, two GS408EPP switches can fit back-to-back, for 16 PoE+ ports in a single 1U rack slot with a total PoE power budget of 124W per switch. More ports can be added as needed without wasting additional valuable rack space.
Web Managed Switches with Full Set of Layer 2 Network Features
The GS408EPP Easy-Mount Switch has 8 Gigabit Ethernet PoE+ ports (124W total PoE power) to enable connection of up to 7 PoE+ (802.3af and 802.3at) devices (1 port for uplink).
The GSS108EPP Click Switch has 4 PoE+ ports (47W total) to enable connection of up to 4 PoE/PoE+ (802.3af and 802.3at) devices and 3 additional non-PoE devices (1 port for uplink).
As part of the ProSAFE Web Managed (Plus) Switch product family, both switches offer fundamental management features with simpler configuration and deployment through a web browser-based management GUI. Some of the features include:
- Advanced per port PoE controls for remote power management of PoE connected devices
- Advanced VLAN support for traffic segmentation including port-based and 802.1Q-based
- Advanced QoS (Quality of Service) for traffic prioritization including port-based and 802.1p/DSCP-based
- Port Trunking/Link Aggregation (manual LAGs) for increased throughput (GS408EPP only)
- Auto “denial-of-service” (DoS) prevention
- IGMP snooping support for multicast optimization
- Rate limiting and priority queuing for better bandwidth allocation
- Port mirroring for network monitoring
- Energy Efficient Ethernet (IEEE 802.3az) for maximum power savings
NETGEAR ProSAFE switches provide world-class reliability and are backed by the industry-leading ProSAFE Lifetime Hardware Warranty, Lifetime Next Business Day shipping for replacement, and Lifetime Technical Support options.
Pricing and Availability
Both switches are available now worldwide through authorized NETGEAR partners and other reseller channels and ecommerce sites. Regional variance may apply to the final pricing for end customers depending on the reseller and bundled offerings. Expected prices in the U.S. are:
- ProSAFE 8-port Gigabit Ethernet Web Managed PoE+ Click Switch (GSS108EPP) — $149.99.
- ProSAFE Easy-Mount 8-port Gigabit Ethernet PoE+ Web Managed Switch (GS408EPP) — $269.99.
