Backup provider Veeam Software has announced that Veeam Availability Suite v9, generally available later this year, will include Unlimited Scale-out Backup Respository, a new storage capability designed to reduce the total cost of ownership of backup storage, lower hardware costs, and simplify backup storage management in complex business environments. The repository creates a virtual pool of storage to which essentially any storage device can be added to increase capacity without the need to manage each device individually.
Additionally, the Unlimited Scale-out Backup Repository allows businesses to use their current storage investment to reduce cost, and according to the company, can increase the capacity of existing storage by as much as 30 percent because it frees up space that typically goes unused in a legacy backup storage environment. Using the backup files placement policy, Veeam speeds up backup and recovery by enabling IT to assign full and incremental backup files to separate storage devices for improved synthetic full backup creation and transformation performance.
“With Veeam, enterprise IT can go beyond legacy backup to embrace true data center availability for all data and applications,” says Ratmir Timashev, CEO of Veeam. “Our new Unlimited Scale-out Backup Repository capability is another example of how we’re taking full advantage of new technologies to improve availability for the enterprise. In this case, the result is dramatic simplification and cost reduction for backup storage management, making it easier and more cost effective to provide ‘always-on’ performance.”
