Barracuda Networks Inc. has released an updated version of its web filter, further extending the company’s support of mobility initiatives for K-12 organizations. Features of the new Barracuda Web Filter version 8.0 include:
- Support for Chromebooks – Administrators now can leverage proxy authentication on the Barracuda Web Filter to enforce user-based policies on Chromebooks – in addition to Windows and MacBooks – for users browsing outside the network perimeter.
- Wireless Access Point (WAP) Integration – As students and staff join campus wireless networks on their personal devices, user identity information can be passed from the access point controller to the Barracuda Web Filter giving administrators more control and visibility into browsing activity, bandwidth usage, and more.
- Extended Web application monitoring – Expanding the monitoring and alerting capabilities around keywords and phrases pertaining to harassment, weapons, or other inappropriate or suspicious content, administrators now can monitor data patterns for other sensitive information and receive alerts on flagged student privacy data such as credit card and social security numbers.
- Customizable dashboards – Administrators now can create and interact with multiple dashboards that summarize Web traffic and user activity, including browsing data, bandwidth usage, and infection statistics, to better understand specific network activities.
“The increasing adoption of mobile devices on school campuses is evident, making mobility a critical piece of the content security puzzle,” says Stephen Pao, GM Security, Barracuda. “We continue to deliver industry leading security solutions to K-12 organizations that allow them to better manage and enable mobile initiatives.
