You don’t need a giant room to throw up a big, beautiful picture. An ultra-short throw projector is specifically designed to produce large images in some of those smaller areas. ViewSonic just introduced the PJD8633ws ultra-short throw projector, as part of the company’s PJD8 series. That little perk allows this projector to be installed in a variety of places, including above a whiteboard or screen. It also means that the WXGA DLP PJD8633ws can deliver a widescreen image of 81 inches at a mere 2.1 feet away. Other features include the Crestron LAN controller for remote control and AMX Device Discovery certification for easy integration. It also has BrilliantColor technology, a 3D-ready HDMI input, a USB port, and integrated 16-watt speakers. It’s also important to note that this unit offers both wired and wireless connectivity, so it can connect easily to a smartphone or tablet for additional control options. “When it comes to ultra-short throw projector solutions, it’s common that manufacturers will offer either reflective mirror technology or direct projection technology, but we feel it is important to offer our customers both,” said Roger Chien, product manager for ViewSonic. “Paired with advanced interactive and connectivity features, our brand new PJD8 series delivers the opportunity of choice, not chance.” ViewSonic will start selling the PJD8633ws late in the third quarter of 2013, with an MSRP of $1,099. That price tag also includes three-year limited parts and labor and one-year lamp warranties, as well as Express Exchange Service.
