Logitech Unleashes Accessories for Windows 8

The company debuts new mice and a touchpad for Windows 8 users.

Microsoft’s latest operating system will drop on October 26, 2012. However, Logitech just announced a few add-ons designed for use with Windows 8. The company plans to ship the Logitech Wireless Rechargeable Touchpad T650, the Touch Mouse T620 and the Zone Touch Mouse T400 later this month, around Microsoft’s launch date.

First up is the Logitech Wireless Rechargeable Touchpad T650. This has a big, super-smooth glassy surface that supports touch commands, making it perfect for Windows 8 gestures. It can also do the point, click and scroll, if you want to get old-school. That said, it doesn’t limit you to one spot, allowing for those commands from anywhere on the touch surface.

Other features include compatibility with gestures for app switching, app bar and charms bar activation, as well as pinch-to-zoom and three-finger swipe to take you back to the Start screen.

The first of two mouse options is the Logitech Touch Mouse T620. The T620 has a sleek design, but also has a full touch-surface for fluid navigation. It’s very similar to the touchpad, in that you can put your fingers almost anywhere on it.

The Logitech Zone Touch Mouse T400 has a glass touch-surface that is designed for smooth horizontal and vertical scrolling with your finger. It also allows users to click anywhere on the front of the “touch zone” to access the Start screen and favorite apps.

That touchpad can charge up via a USB, boasting one month of battery life on a full charge. It also has an on/off switch so you can salvage some of the battery life in between uses. The Logitech Touch Mouse T620 promises 6 months of battery life, with the Logitech Zone Touch Mouse T400 clocking with 18 months of playtime.

“This new family of products takes the traditional mouse functionality you’re used to and optimizes it for the navigation experience offered by Windows 8,” said Mike Culver, vice president of brand development for Logitech’s consumer computing platforms. “Our new mice and touchpad replicate the touch-screen experience that you’ve grown accustomed to on smartphones and tablets. With Windows 8 now offering up a similar touch experience, our products give you quick, easy and dynamic access to the core elements of the new interface.”

Logitech plans to ship the Logitech Wireless Rechargeable Touchpad T650, Logitech Touch Mouse T620 and Logitech Zone Touch Mouse T400 later this month. Expect the products to be priced at $79.99, $69.99 and $49.99, respectively.
