The appliance provides a data processing hardware link between Emerson’s Trellis data center infrastructure management platform and the IT and facilities systems.
Manufacturer Emerson Network Power officially announced its Avocent Universal Management Gateway this week. The data center appliance was designed to enable integrated monitoring, access, and control of data center IT and infrastructure operations.
When combined with data center infrastructure management (DCIM) software, this multifunctional device will deliver comprehensive, real-time IT and infrastructure management capabilities for the data center.
The Avocent Universal Management Gateway appliance serves an integral role in Emerson’s Trellis DCIM platform. It serves as the real-time data processing hardware link between management software and the IT and facilities systems in the data center. Delivering insight and control to data center professionals, the Trellis platform enables SMBs to make decisions to maximize data center availability, efficiency, and capacity.
Available February 2012, the Avocent Universal Management Gateway appliance stores, processes, and translates huge volumes of real-time data generated by data center systems enabling rapid, accurate problem identification, escalation, and resolution. The Avocent Universal Management Gateway appliance also provides remote access and control of these systems, features that are central to the future of DCIM.
“The appliance will play a key role in our Trellis platform, which will combine Emerson expertise in hardware, software, and services to enable more effective and efficient data center management,” explains Steve Hassell, Emerson Network Power’s president of the Avocent business. “This device integrates capabilities delivered traditionally through multiple disparate IT and facilities devices into a single product that delivers enhanced functionality along with reduced space utilization.”
