VMware has announced the availability of VMware vCenter Protect Essentials Plus. Formerly known as Shavlik NetChk Protect, vCenter Protect Essentials Plus is designed to simplify IT management needs by providing a complete, on-premise managed system.
VMware vCenter Protect Essentials Plus offers agentless management of physical and virtual machines, software update deployment, asset discovery, configuration, power management, antivirus, and endpoint security.
New features in VMware vCenter Protect Essentials Plus include:
- IT Scripts — New scripting capabilities enable the management and execution of scripts across machine groups or an entire network. According to VMware, the ITScripts Catalog will be continuously expanded as more scripts are released. Scripts will be available to automate such tasks as configuration, maintenance, support, and network information.
- Remote Desktop Integration — A remote desktop enables users to execute Remote Desktop Protocol from the “Machine View.” This, in turn, enables IT administrators remote access to a target machine.
- Multi-Admin Support — The console enables multiple administrators to simultaneously perform different tasks at the same time.
- Power Management — A new “Power Status” scan discovers the power status of machines across the network and can generate reports that customers can submit to any power company that offers energy savings rebates.
A free trial version of VMware vCenter Protect Essentials Plus is available to download from VMware.
