A new service, called Data Center Efficiency Assessment, uses industry benchmarks and best practices to identify opportunities to increase availability and reduce costs.
Data center efficiency innovator Emerson Network Power has rolled out an onsite infrastructure assessment service designed to help VARs and their SMB clients identify, evaluate, and resolve their cooling and power vulnerabilities. The service, called Data Center Efficiency Assessment is being offered in North America.
The new Emerson Network Power assessment is designed for data centers of at least 2,000 square feet. The assessment uses industry benchmarks and best practices to identify opportunities to increase availability, reduce costs and unlock capacity, and provide prioritized and actionable recommendations. It employs such tools as Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeling.
According to Emerson Network Power, the assessment is ideal for data centers undergoing such strategic projects as virtualization, consolidation, or blade implementations as well as “those that are capacity constrained, have experienced unplanned downtime, or are experiencing IT equipment degradation due to excessive heat.”
“The IT industry is in a constant state of change and data center managers are regularly challenged to respond, while still finding ways to focus on availability, reliability and efficiency in their facility,” says Omar McKee, Emerson Network Power’s director of marketing. “This assessment service provides actionable data center improvement recommendations that deliver measurable results in efficiency and availability.”†
The assessment aims to help SMBs:
- Eliminate Hotspots — Heated area and “over-cooled” areas are identified and solutions are suggested.
- Use Power Effectively — Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) is measured to establish an efficiency baseline and track performance.
- Plan for Growth — IT expansion and optimization will be considered, along with goals for maintaining energy efficient operations that don’t compromise availability.
Emerson Network Power’s Data Center Efficiency Assessment features a full on-site evaluation of electrical and mechanical systems, IT load analysis, temperature and airflow modeling, recommendations for improvements, PUE data, and payback calculations. Results are provided electronically or in a standard, bound report, and an Emerson Network Power associate delivers an in-person review of the results at the customer’s site
