Data backup solutions provider STORServer has added Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) 256-bit encryption to its Archive Backup Client (ABC) and STORServer Data Protection (SDP) software.
ABC and SDP are agents written specifically for OpenVMS customers backing up to IBM’s Tivoli Storage Manager. AES 256-bit encryption is an encryption algorithm providing maximum security for sensitive digitized content. Its addition to ABC and SDP adds further protection to confidential data.
“High-level encryption satisfies intensive security conscious customers, such as those in the healthcare and financial industries,” states STORserver in a press release submitted to Channel Pro-SMB. The company points out that as the healthcare industry has largely digitized its workflow and moved to electronic patient records, risk of malware and security threats have also increased.
“To protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of sensitive electronic information, the government has heightened legal privacy requirements for the storage of healthcare records,” says STORserver president Bill Smoldt. “With the addition of AES 256-bit encryption, STORServer is helping our healthcare clients comply with this government mandate and maximize electronic security.”
The ABC software offers ad hoc backup and archive requests, full user authentication for data protection, and a simple DCL-like interface as well as:
- Protection for OpenVMS files stored on TSM servers.
- Automation and scheduling to save time and resources.
- AliasWiseTM handling of complex alias file structures to ensure accuracy.
- Policy-based management and support of many storage devices.
The STORServer’s SDP software also features block level incremental backup of changed database pages and Oracle backups with virtually no application impact. SDP for OpenVMS supports Oracle and Oracle Rdb. The software also offers:
- Full or tablespace backup of a database while online or offline.
- Full database restoration while online or offline.
- Tablespace restoration of a database while offline.
- Backups of archive log files.
