The worldwide PC market, including desktops, notebooks, netbooks, tablet PCs, and industry-standard server PCs, grew 19.2 percent from Q4 2009 to Q4 2010, with a big boost from tablet PCs such as the Apple iPad and Samsung Galaxy Tab.
Canalys, an analyst firm covering the high-tech industry, reported the growth figure at the end of January 2011. The firm also noted that based on “impressive iPad and Mac sales,” Apple climbed to third place in total units shipped, taking the slot from Dell. HP and Acer still lead Apple, Dell, Lenovo, and others in PC shipments year over year.
