Network Monitoring Solutions provider Paessler AG has updated its flagship PRTG product. The network monitoring software’s latest iteration, version 8.2, offers optimized performance designed to speed network monitoring tasks, particularly for larger installations.
PRTG v8.2 offers an improved database system for access to log files. In addition, the software developer says ToDo lists and Toplists are “up to 300 times faster than previous versions.”
“This latest release delivers even greater efficiency that can free up precious IT admin staff time,” adds Ken Sanofsky, Paessler’s U.S. general manager, “allowing them to focus on tasks that drive greater business value to the organization.”
The improved performance in PRTG v8.2 is enhanced with upgraded auto-discovery. That feature now includes template support for almost all sensor types (with predefined sensor settings to speed discovery and setup of new devices in the monitored environment).
The addition of three new sensor types enables monitoring of DHCP servers, VMware ESX(i) discs via SSH, and traffic flow over jFlow-capable devices. With the addition of jFlow, together with PRTG’s existing NetFlow and sFlow sensors, the software is now able to monitor bandwidth usage on most common Juniper, Cisco and HP hardware.
Ping and port sensors have also been optimized to better meet customer needs.
