Trend Micro’s senior manager Dal Gemmell and vice president of channel sales Stephen Mungall met with Channel Pro-SMB last week to provide and inside scoop about newest Worry-Free Business Security edition.
Worry-Free Business Security 7 Business Edition has been touted by Trend Micro since 2004 as blocking “the latest threats before they reach your business” since.
Now, the security software (“powered by” the company’s Smart Protection Network) has added some key features for SMBs and MSPs.
For one thing, the latest version enables MSPs to host security at Trend Micro at no extra cost. Moreover, MSPs are able to access multiple clients through a single interface. “And those using multiple Micro Trend products can do that to,” Gemmell adds.
New Tools for Data Protection
Worry-Free Business Security enables SMBs to lock down data by protecting it from escaping the building. According to Mungall, the product has features that will address data loss through Web mail, exchange server e-mail, and USB ports.
The Web mail solution is pretty straightforward. IT managers can block certain sites, like gmail or Yahoo!, from being accessed. It’s the exchange server e-mail and USB port protections that get interesting.
“Certain content can be pre-defined,” says Mungall. He explains that credit card strings and social security numbers can all be pre-programmed into the system. “Customers can also design new templates,” he adds, so that account numbers or product numbers can also be pre-defined. Then, any e-mail being sent out of the exchange server with a message or attachment containing one of these pre-defined trigger strings would be blocked from exiting the system.
“It checks both the e-mail content and attachments and blocks that e-mail if necessary,” says †Gemmell.
“In addition, it provides exclusion,” Mungall continues. “You could put the e-mail addresses in there of people who will never be screened.”
When it comes to USB protection, Gemmell explains that Worry-Free Business Security 7 enables any USB device that includes storage to be interrupted by restricted USB ports. “You can set permissions from full access to no access, where you have no access to any type of USB device,” he explains.
Improved Mac-Windows Integration
Another improvement over previous versions of Worry-Free Business Security, says Trend Micro, is the latest edition’s improved integration with security for Macs.
“With our channel partners,” Gemmell says, “minimizing the time and effort to protect both Mac and Windows in an organization [is important].” For that reason, he says, Worry-Free Business Security 7 adds Mac protection built into a single product.
“Our competitors have Mac protection,” Mungall says, “and they will bundle it, but it’s a separate product.”
