Layered Tech Adds a ‘Virtual Private Data Center’ to its Offerings

Provider of on-demand IT infrastructure announces a secure “technology-agnostic” platform for cloud computing via proprietary API.

Layered Technologies Inc., provider of on-demand IT infrastructure, has a new virtual, private data center platform for cloud computing.

Layered Tech Adds a 'Virtual Private Data Center' to its OfferingsThe new virtual private data center (VPDC) offers levels of managed services, security, and flexibility via a proprietary API. The new platform is a hybrid cloud-

computing infrastructure that gives customers a virtualized environment on dedicated servers with Layer Technologies data centers.

Layered Tech says the new platforms provide flexibility in the way SMBs “securely access their VPDC, whether by dedicated lines, VPN, or Internet.”

In addition, Layered Tech calls its new VPDC “technology-agnostic,” adding that customers can choose the virtualization platform that best suites their needs, including 3Tera’s AppLogic, VMware, or Microsoft Hyper-V.

An automated server provisioning system will also enable enterprise customers to design, order, and deploy a secure virtualized environment within an hour.† And, Layered Tech’s new VPDC platform provides a customer API, which makes more than 100 applications available to the SMBs’ developers.

Layered Tech’s new integrated virtualized platform provides a customer API created by Layered Tech and based on industry-standard protocols (SOAP and XML-RPC). The company says it provides easy connectivity and enables customers to perform activities such as customizing proprietary applications, monitoring and managing resources, and reviewing analytics via computer or mobile device.

The new VPDC platform is wrapped with tiered managed services that are based on its DEFCON service bundles. In a press release to EH Publishing, Layered Technology says customers can now choose from a range of support options rather than the “all-or-nothing approach.”

Support for the VPDC ranges from the highest root-level access down to the lowest self-managed option with varying levels in between.

“By migrating to off-premise private clouds, businesses get an immediate payback by better utilizing their internal IT staff, resources, and budget,” says Layered Tech CEO Jack Finlayson. He also claims such benefits as reduced capital spending, higher productivity, greater speed to market, and “near-instantaneous scalability of computing resources.”

“Several Layered Tech customers are already successfully using early versions of our new VPDC platform,” reports Finlayson. “And as we move closer to general availability, we expect to announce additional features that will create even more value.”

Layered Technologies COO and CIO Terrance Bush says his company worked closely with companies of various sizes, with a variety of business aims, in “pioneering” the VPDC. All of the companies, he says, “share the same VPDC, “share the same requirement for security, choice, and flexibility from their cloud environments.”

We can provide that with our hybrid approach,” Bush says. “It gives customers dedicated, unshared resources in their off-premise cloud infrastructure rather than placing their data into purely public clouds.”

Bush adds that his company’s latest VPDC evolution helps to form a “broad-based platform of services and features.”
