Super Micro Computer Inc., maker of server solutions, has launched a new line of A Server, SuperBlade, and workstation platforms optimized for six-core AMB Opteron processors.
Based on the AMD SR5690 and SP5100 chipsets, Super Micro says the new line was designed to boost performance with PCI-Express 2.0.
In a recent press release, the vendor says the line doubles I/O throughput and “reduces total cost of ownership with high-efficiency Gold-Level power supplies.”
Company president and CEO Charles Liang says Super Micro’s six-core A server, blade, and workstation solutions with PCI-Express 2.0 “support advanced, high-performance features, including optimization for GPU computing, 6Gb/s SAS 2.0 storage, and 40Gb/s QDR InfiniBand connectivity.”
AMD’s vice president and general manager Patrick Patla says Super Micro is supplying the channel with “innovative, high-end solutions” with its new line.
“AMD’s multi-core processor technology, now combined with an advanced chipset, provides customers with an optimized platform to help lower energy consumption, while still addressing the compute-intensive demands of the high-performance market,” Patla says.
In addition to the performance enhancements in Six-Core AMD Opteron processors with AMD chipset, Super Micro’s new line of A solutions offers these high-performance design features:
- GPU-Optimized Designs–These support up to four double-wide GPUs, along with two CPUs and up to 3 additional high-performance add-on cards.
- 6Gb/s SAS 2.0 Designs–These are four-socket and two-socket server and workstation solutions with twice the average data throughput of previous generation storage architectures.
- Universal I/O Designs–These provide flexible I/O customization.
- QDR InfiniBand Support Option–This includes an integrated QDR IB switch and an UIO add-on card solution.
- High Memory Capacity–16 DIMM models with high capacity memory support dramatically improved memory and virtualization performance.
- High-Efficiency VRMs–This saves energy and reduces electricity costs, according to Super Micro.
- Up to 10 Quad-Processor or Dual-Processor Blades–These are supported in a 7U enclosure with up to 240 processor cores and 640 GB memory per 7U enclosure.
The full range of six-core Supemicro A solutions includes both DP and MP servers and workstations in 1U, 2U, 4U, tower, and blade form factors.†
