Vizioncore Releases its vOptimizer Wastefinder as Freeware
Company also announces a “Cash for LUNkers” contest with prizes up to $5,000, open to software downloaders and VMware customers.
Vizioncore Inc., a maker of virtualization data protection and management solutions, has made the space and alignment scanning and reporting capabilities of its vOptimizer Pro available as a freeware product called vOptimizer Wastefinder.
VMware customers can now use vOptimizer WasteFinder to search for over-allocated virtual storage as well as to immediately see the potential savings available from reclaiming that space. vOptimizer WasteFinder detects such problems as virtual machines that are not 64k aligned, which can lead to poor I/O performance.
Vizioncore is also announcing additional free editions of their products including vConverter SC and vControl multi-hypervisor management.
Vizioncore’s initiative to offer free tools started earlier this year with the launch of the Virtualization EcoShell Initiative (VESI). The idea of providing free tools, the company says, is to “accelerate virtualization adoption.”
More information about the free products can be found online.
Virtualization EcoShell focuses on script-based VM administration. According to Steven Paravola, Vizioncore product marketing manager for vOptimizer WasteFinder, says that by offering the product for free, Vizioncore is “allowing businesses to quickly determine whether they have properly allocated their virtual storage, and if not, instantly see the potential savings of reclaiming wasted space.”
vOptimizer WasteFinder is free software available for download from the Vizioncore Web site. With a download and set-up time of approximately 15 minutes, it can be run by any VMware customer.
Vizioncore also invites downloaders—and all VMware customers—to enter the “Cash for LUNkers” contest in which entrants with the largest amounts of wasted storage reported can win up to $5,000.
To enter, users must:
- Download and install vOptimizer WasteFinder.
- Run “Wasted Storage Scan.”
- E-mail the results to Vizioncore.
