Barracuda Networks Updates its Yosemite Server Backup Interface

New pricing structure for the Yosemite Server Backup product opens it up to mid-market users.

Barracuda Networks Inc., a security appliance manufacturer, has enhanced the user interface of its BarracudaWare Yosemite Server Backup product.

The new face of the BarracudaWare Yosemite Server Backup is expected to improve the customer experience by reducing the number of screens used within the interface. In addition, the interface provides access to logs from a central location. Simple job configuration and user control (including “right click” functionality for device operations) are also seen as improvements.

According to a Barracuda Networks press release, the new interface now “makes scheduling backups easy through a simple calendar interface.” †For removable media systems, Yosemite Server Backup can automate and guide an organization’s tape rotation strategy. †For automated media libraries, Yosemite Server Backup can automatically control any robotics that load media. †Automated e-mail notifications can also be enabled to keep administrators informed of backup completions as well as any problems encountered during backup operations.

New Pricing Reflects Marketing Strategy

In addition to interface changes, the Yosemite Server Backup product is now available in only four options, ranging from $299 for single server to only $1499 for unlimited usage. This simplification is aimed at broadening the product’s market. is hoped to broaden its market. “Restructuring the Yosemite Server Backup pricing,” says Stephen Pao, vice president of product management for Barracuda Networks, “ensures that organizations of all size can afford a solution that fits within their budgets and that does not charge extra for crucial features and additional options.”

For Howe Electric Construction Inc., a union electrical contracting firm in Central California, the new pricing structure has served it well. According to Joe Glessner, IT manager for Howe Electric, the cost-savings options enabled his company displace an older system.

“We downloaded the trial version and were amazed by the great features and ease of use,” Glessner says. “†We now save 90 percent over what we were paying for the previous solution and enjoy all of the same benefits and more.”
