CompTIA has formed the Unified Communications Community, a member-driven group tasked with promoting the adoption and growth of unified communications (UC). †According to Jim Hamilton, senior director of member relations for CompTIA, the new community will focus on best practices, educational tools, and business resources for companies engaged in UC.
UC is the result of data, voice, video, and mobility converged as a single managed product. UC is designed to enhance business processes with communications, and strong growth is predicted — $50 billion plus in a few years.
Hamilton warns of the barriers to broader adoption – standards and interoperability, security considerations, plus the integration of UC in the cloud environment. The Unified Communications Community is designed to help overcome these barriers
Potential initiatives for the CompTIA Unified Communications Community include:
- Development of descriptive business models and technology clarification.
- Creation of channel and partnership enablement education.
- Designing sales process and best practice education, as well as prescriptive models to aid in business transformation.
- Developing research to highlight the best potential business opportunities and demystify the technology.
The CompTIA Unified Communications Community will hold its next meeting on Wednesday, April 6, during the second CompTIA Annual Member Meeting in Chicago.
