Barracuda Networks, a provider of cloud-first security solutions, has announced the Barracuda SecureEdge SASE (secure access service edge) solution, which aims to make hybrid and remote work easier to secure. Barracuda SecureEdge integrates Barracuda’s Secure SD-WAN, Firewall-as-a-Service, Zero Trust Network Access, and Secure Web Gateway capabilities in one platform. Delivered as a service, Barracuda SecureEdge secures users, sites, and IoT devices, and connects any device, application, and cloud/hybrid environment.
Under development for four years, the SecureEdge platform “has very low complexity, a high degree of automation, and is very manageable,” says Klaus Gheri (pictured), vice president of network security product and engineering at Barracuda. “We were wanting to tone down the complexity of our network security offerings. This was our main motivation, to make things that are normally very hard to set up, super easy,” adding that Barracuda was “aiming for a single-vendor solution that can address multiple needs that typical customers would have and thus MSPs [could] offer as a service.”
Key highlights of the new platform, according to Barracuda, are:
- Provides a high level of control and visibility into user-generated traffic at each endpoint. Selective security inspection enables businesses and MSPs to maintain control over critical application traffic.
- Simplifies operations by applying intent-based networking principles across the entire platform, including SD-WAN and secure application access.
- Includes multiple levels of security and connectivity with auto-secure SD-WAN over all available uplinks.
- Built-in last-mile optimization uses advanced Forward Error Correction algorithms to mitigate packet loss and optimize network traffic. These algorithms are applied when connecting office locations as well as endpoints.
Gheri says MSPs can use SecureEdge, which features multitenancy, with their existing Barracuda products. “We try to be minimally invasive and not force partners to swap out gear or replace things, because that, of course, adds cost and cost is, of course, not what they want to see.”
The new Barracuda SecureEdge platform makes hybrid and remote work easier to secure. It facilitates direct access to applications for remote users with zero trust enforcement, URL filtering, and traffic optimization to make the most of shared internet lines.
In terms of feedback from MSP partners, Gheri says, “they love the simplicity and the use case agility because now, especially with the work from home, there’s a lot more they can sell to their customers.”
Barracuda SecureEdge is available now for customers, partners, and MSPs.
