Minneapolis Hosts the IoTSSA Cyber Security Services Expo

Held at TopGolf in Brooklyn Center, Minn., the one-day event featured cybersecurity educational sessions and peer networking.

The IoTSSA Cyber Security Services Expo took place at TopGolf in Minneapolis on Tuesday, June 25. It was the fourth of six events the IoT Security Services Association has on the docket for 2019. The IoT Security Services Association is a community of IT channel partners connecting industry security experts and vendors with IT service providers.

Warranty Master CEO Dan Wensley and 20-year channel chief and IoTSSA content director Brian Sherman opened the event. Al Phillips (pictured right), IoTSSA president, told attendees they would all come away with content they could take back to the office and use to execute better practices.

In the first session, Lisa Person, director of member relations at industry organization CompTIA, presented the latest in IoT research, 2019 security predictions, and how it impacts SMBs’ and IT solution providers’ businesses.

The morning also featured presentations on the dark web and dispelling ransomware myths, as well as a keynote address from Wayne Selk, CISSP and director of professional services at†ConnectWise. Selk talked about how much of the current risk equation the MSP owns versus customers, and how to communicate this and further the MSP’s role as a trusted partner.

In the afternoon, there was a cybersecurity swot analysis using the latest SMB research, a pen test demo, and a security expert panel discussion.

Those sessions were followed by an introduction to IoT Playbook, the integrator and solution provider’s guide to profiting from the Internet of Things and a sister publication of ChannelPro.

The day ended with awards and prizes, followed by a golf outing.

Next up on the IoTSSA cybersecurity tour is Loudoun, Va., on September 19.
