Information management software developer Sherpa Software is helping organizations “keep it Sherpa simple” with the launch of its software-as-a-service (SaaS) offering, Attender online. The company is demonstrating the new product this week (Oct. 28≠–30) at the ARMA 2013 event in Las Vegas. It is also offering online product demonstrations to remote parties.
What Is Attender Online?
Attender Online is designed to provide records managers and information governance professionals with a cloud-based means of managing unstructured data, enforcing unified policies, gaining control of legacy data, searching content on servers, desktops and SharePoint, and ensuring regulatory compliance for eDiscovery all within a secure and efficient environment.
Security & Access
The Attender Online platform employs a secure hybrid approach to policy enforcement. Management components and configuration data are hosted in a secure SSAE 16 data center and are accessible from virtually anywhere.
“The hosted service offers the benefits of the cloud, but with business-critical data never leaving the customer site, offering better security,” states Sherpa Software in a press release submitted to ChannelPro-SMB.
“The policies customers create in the cloud are executed by software agents installed within their networks, meaning customers may manage business-critical ESI without it ever having to leave the customer site,” adds Sherpa Software president Kevin Ogrodnik. “This means you get the benefit of the cloud without the risk. Sensitive information is efficiently managed without ever having to leave the customer network.”
Attender Online is modeled after the Windows 8 tile-based interface and can extend information governance capabilities. From the Attender Online hosted dashboard, organizations can monitor system status, check notifications, initiate policies, and view reports. Workflow design and ESI enforcement are performed by local software components, ensuring that sensitive information is efficiently managed without ever leaving your organization.
How It Works
Targeted specifically to records managers and organizations in compliance, legal, and IT departments, Attender Online can locate, inventory, and manage ESI content contained in Microsoft Exchange mailboxes and archives, PST files, network file shares and user desktops. The modular design of the service enables new content sources to be added.

Attender Online works, essentially, in these steps:
- Organizations begin by identifying the people or servers they wish to manage.
- Organizations search for and link ESI repositories (mailboxes, hard drives, etc.) to each person or server.
- Using Attender Online’s workflow architecture, organizations develop policies that allow for the examination, copy, movement, deletion, or reporting of ESI target data using a variety of selection criteria.
- Organizations create policies by combining a workflow with the appropriate groups, people, or servers and then run those policies on a scheduled basis.
- Software agents installed within a network administer or enforce Attender Online policies.
