Storage, backup and recovery company Paragon Software Group (PSG) has launched its Paragon Protect & Restore (PPR) solution.
The PPR software features centralized remote management of physical and virtual machines and provides agentless backup of virtual servers and workstations through a tight integration with VMware vSphere (Microsoft Hyper-V coming soon). PPR additionally supports agent-based backup of physical Windows machines and other hypervisor clients.
“PPR is highly scalable from 1 to 1000s of servers and perfect for businesses backing up in a virtual, physical or mixed environment,” says Paragon Software Group president Tom Fedro. “Our goal was to develop a backup and disaster recovery solution that offers comprehensive data protection, a fast recovery process and excellent technical support, all delivered at a reasonable price point; early adopters of the product are telling us we succeeded.”
Paragon Protect & Restore Features
Paragon Protect & Restore comes with Paragon’s Adaptive Restore, which supports recovery to different hardware, also known as hardware-independent restore (HIR). Further, PPR incorporates Paragon’s proven UFSD technology, which enables the software to be aware of what type of data resides inside of backup images and for fast access to granular recovery options.
Backups of physical and virtual machines can be managed from multiple management consoles, or a central location. The product’s distributed architecture enables flexible scalability and accommodates environments of different sizes and configurations. A unified installation package includes all components of the product, which can be installed all on one machine, or be deployed across several machines from the management console, according to needs.
Features include:
- Integration with hypervisors (VMware ESX now, Hyper-V with next version).
- Agent-based option to safeguard physical machines and other hypervisor clients.
- Fast, incremental backups and flexible scheduling options.
- Primary local storage and secondary archive storage (local, network storage and SFTP/FTP currently) via a two-tier backup storage infrastructure.
- Provides detailed reporting and monitoring views.
Additional features scheduled for upcoming releases include Microsoft Hyper-V support, Dedupe and Granular Recovery for Exchange.
