Barracuda Networks Inc., a provider of security, networking, and data protection solutions, has launched Barracuda Backup release 5.0, featuring new, instant recovery via Barracuda LiveBoot for VMware. This new capability, included at no additional charge to Barracuda Backup customers, enables administrators to boot a critical server if the primary storage for their VMware environment fails, thus reducing overall downtime.
Barracuda Backup is a complete, end-to-end business backup solution for mixed physical and virtual server environments. Barracuda LiveBoot for Vmware enables a virtual machine to be booted directly from the Barracuda Backup Server’s deduplicated backup storage live to get businesses up and running again quickly. Barracuda LiveBoot for VMware also provides customers with a platform for testing and sandboxing their servers to validate software upgrades or changes.
Additional highlights of this new Barracuda Backup release include:
- Granular Data Restore – Barracuda Backup features an intuitive restore browser where administrators can either recover a whole server or selectively restore folders and individual files directly from a single pass, fully deduplicated backup store. The use of one deduplicated image to do both types of restores eliminates the need to install additional software or run separate backups for granular restore options, and it provides flexibility from a very efficient backup method.
- Elastic Compute Resources – Barracuda Backup’s integration with server storage in the customer’s VMware environment provides the customer with more flexibility on the compute resources they apply to recovered servers.
