The security innovator’s latest is specifically geared for its popular line of unified threat management appliances.
Business security solutions provider WatchGuard Technologies has unveiled its latest security operating system for the XTM line of unified threat management appliances.†With the latest release, SMBs gain advanced networking capabilities for mobile workers as well as management and reporting functions that provide insight into applications, bandwidth usage, and user behavior.
“This release is another step in the,” touts Tim Helming, WatchGuard’s director of product marketing. He adds that the “ultimate firewall” is one that comes from an “ongoing march to provide unbeatable network security, data protection, and advanced reporting intelligence.”
One of the new features of the WatchGuard release includes the ability to create secure connectivity for mobile devices. By supporting the IPSec functionality already present on the Apple devices, WatchGuard aims to provide users of iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices an easy way to securely access corporate resources. “Easy for administrators and end-users alike, this new XTM functionality embraces the growing business adoption of these popular devices,” states the company in a press release submitted to Channel Pro-SMB.
In addition, the new release delivers a new logging interface that is faster for log searching. Meanwhile, the new, interactive reporting dashboard provides a means of interpreting network activity, user data, applications information, URLs, and more.
The new WatchGuard also releases enhances email security by providing options to require Transport Layer Security (TLS), which encrypts sensitive email communications to prevent electronic eavesdropping.†
Single Sign-On with Active Directory is used to map end user computers to their user names without having to first visit a firewall login screen to begin their browsing sessions. With this new release, the SSO Agent has been enhanced to better detect user logon and logoff activities. †
Lastly, the new release adds IPv6 functionality.† The IPv6ready Gold logo for routing validates this phase, confirming that the basic “plumbing” (the packet routing building blocks of IPv6) works correctly. This release includes support for static network routing through the firewall, and WatchGuard XTM appliances running this latest release have achieved the Gold logo certification for routing from ipv6ready.org.
The new release of WatchGuard’s XTM appliance software is available now.† It is free to SMBs and VARs with current WatchGuard LiveSecurity subscriptions.
