Veeam Adds Hyper-V Support to Its Backup & Replication Software
Developer adds two-in-one backup and replication, changed block tracking, and built-in deduplication and compression, aiming to provide hypervisor environment administrators with a complete solution for virtualization-based data protection and disaster recovery.
Veeam Software provides data protection, disaster recovery, and management for VMware. The company announced at Tech Ed North America this week that its Backup and Replication solution virtual data center environments now supports Windows Server Hyper-V and Microsoft Hyper-V Server.
Veeam aims for its Backup & Replication software to provide SMBs with “cost-effective, easy-to-use, and comprehensive image-based data protection designed specifically for virtual environments,” according to a press release submitted to Channel Pro-SMB.
By extending support to Hyper-V, Veeam’s Backup and Replication software is providing:
- 2-in-1 Backup and Replication for Hyper-V — Near-continuous data protection, enabling improved recovery time and recovery point objectives.
- Changed Block Tracking — Hypervisor support includes technology for changed block tracking to enable fast and frequent backup and replication of all VMs, including those running on Cluster Shared Volumes.
- Built-In Deduplication and Compression — Minimized consumption of network bandwidth and backup storage.
“Our customers and partners are increasingly asking about Hyper-V support,” Veeam president and CEO Ratmir Timashev. “With 2-in-1 backup and replication, changed block tracking and built-in deduplication, Veeam will provide Hyper-V administrators with a complete solution for virtualization-based data protection and disaster recovery that is easy-to-use and cost-effective. Soon, organizations using Hyper-V will be able to achieve RPOs and RTOs with reduced cost, effort, and risk.”
For Microsoft, the new Veeam support goes a long way toward helping SMB partners. “A multi-hypervisor environment is a reality for many organizations,” explains David Greschler, director of virtualization and cloud strategy for Microsoft. “Veeam adds its backup and replication expertise to Microsoft Hyper-V, enhancing the ability of organizations to manage their multi-hypervisor environment in a consistent and cost-effective manner.”
Veeam Backup & Replication for Microsoft Hyper-V will be available to SMB customers in the fourth quarter of 2011.
