Power protection manufacturer Tripp Lite has announced that its PowerAlert Network Shutdown Agent (PANSA) and PowerAlert Local (PAL) programs are now fully compatible with VMware.
PAL enables end-users to manage UPS systems connected to a computer through USB or serial cables for a basic unattended shutdown. PANSA enables networked computers not directly connected to a UPS to shut down automatically when a power problem is detected, and it is configurable to respond to specific power events via an SNMP or serial connection.
Meanwhile, VMware is virtualization software that enables multiple users to run a number of operating systems using a single hard drive. “This not only saves money by requiring less hardware, but also utilizes more efficient load balancing,” states a Tripp Lite press release submitted to EH Publishing.
According to Tripp Lite’s director of software development, Mike Delgrosso, the new VMware compatibility of the PowerAlert products means SMBs will be able to save money while protecting their systems. Moreover, Delgrosso says the VMware compatibility provides customers with “a comprehensive network solution.”
Delgrosso adds, “We’re happy to be able to add VMware to our list of supported software clients.”
- Key PowerAlert Features include:
- Monitoring of a UPS over a serial port on the ESXi server
- Auto-discovery of Tripp Lite UPS systems
- Support for redundant UPS configurations
- Script execution
- Unattended shutdown
